Archaeology Notes

NY07SE 19 c. 061 738. A collection of objects found at Mouswald Place and now in the National Museum of Antiquities, comprises: Bronze flanged axe, 4 1/2 in long; Iron spear-head, 17 in long, the socket open on one side; The side handle and foot of a brass cooking pot; Six stone spindle whorls, one ornamented with incised lines; Six jet beads, one of variegated glass, and one of amber (no doubt from an urn burial see NY07SE 16); A flat oval perforated sandstone pebble; Three glass bottle-marks, one dated 1709; Part of a cannon ball. Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1889 No knowledge of any of these objects was found at Mouswald Place. Visited by OS (WDJ) 31 October 1967 (Flanged bronze axe; Baldersby variant of Lissett type) Single find. Flanged axe, pitted, green, slope stop; length 110mm, butt 21mm, cutting edge 41mm, weight 240gms. National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS DC 63). P K Schmidt and C B Burgess 1981.
