Archaeology Notes

NJ73NW 12 c.72 39. There are two stone axes from Upper Darley (NJ 724 397) in Inverurie Museum. One (Acc. No: AF 58) is of biotite-sillimanite-quartz-schist, while the other (AF 70) is of quartz-dolerite. (cf NJ7310 and 11.) P R Ritchie and J G Scott 1981; Visited by OS (AA) 24 February 1969. Inverurie Museum AF 58 (ABN 97) has been petrologically attributed to group XXXIIIa (andalusite-bearing schist, Possibly from a source in Aberdeenshire). AF 70 (ABN 107) has been attributed to group XXXII (epidiorite or altered dolerite, possibly from the Dalradian of northern Scotland). TH McK Clough and WA Cummins 1988
