Archaeology Notes

NJ41SW 25 c. 44 12. In Aberdeen Regional Museum is a polished stone axe, 6 3/4" x 2", a stone axe, 9" x 3 1/2", and three triangular stone cruise lamps, from Towie (NJ 44 12). Part of the Dr Johnson collection. Information from Acc. Reg. Aberdeen Reg. Museum. (Name cited as Trancie Hill). NMRS, MS/712/46. Two stone axes and three stone lamps from Towie were noted by the Ordnance Survey in 1969 in a display in Aberdeen Regional Museum. They formed part of a temporary exhibition between the 1930s and 1970s. This drew on the collections of several museums, including Aberdeen City Museum and Art Gallery, Marischal Museum, and Inverurie Museum. Unfortunately the Ordnance Survey did not note any of the accession numbers and it has not proved possible to identify where the artefacts are now housed. Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 14 October 2003.
