Archaeology Notes

NJ26SE 20 centred 296 614. Two beakers from Sleepies Hill (Sleepieshill Wood - NJ 296 614) are in Elgin Museum. One (1853.1) was donated in 1853; the other after 1860 (J Anderson and G F Black 1888) (1888.7 - ? therefore donated in 1888). No details are known of their finding. J Anderson and G F Black 1888; I C Walker 1967. A bowl-shaped beaker in the museum is noted in the inventory as 'found in 1853 in a cist in a cairn on Sleepies Hill'. Visited by OS (A A) 17 May 1971; Information from Elgin Museum Acc Reg. In Elgin Museum are an incomplete Clarke-type S4 beaker and a Bowl-type beaker, from Sleepies Hill, donor and date unknown. Acc Nos: 1888.7 & 1853.1. D L Clarke 1970. No further information (but see NJ26SE 27. - cairn). Visited by OS (A A) 8 February 1972.
