Archaeology Notes

NJ06SW 19 unlocated. Roman and Provincial objects of Roman origin from Culbin Sands. A small fragment of a light coloured glass bowl or cup; fragment of the rim of a vessel of amber glass similar to Newstead examples; fragments of light coloured glass, with three thread-like ribs of blue glass. There are also a few brooches - one of trumpet-shape; another of 2nd century type; a third and fourth imitative of provincial Roman brooches. J Curle 1932 The brooches are all 2nd c. and the glass probably 1st c. A S Robertson 1970 Three 2nd century articles found at Culbin Sands and originally in a private collection in Ireland were purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland in May 1970. They consisted of a brass trumpet brooch (Accession no 1970:23); a silver signet-ring (1970:25) and a zoomorphic support 37mm long (1970:24). M Henig 1974.
