Original description

[MOS List, Wood, II.2.5, August 1997]. [One of] Cone-shaped turning wasters, from bowl production ("turnips"): - Iona, with pin socket. PK note: Provisional 1997 register number allocated to MOS object. [MoS description] Working wood. Lathe turning. {Lathe turning leaves behing distinctive shapes of waste material depending on what was being made. Bowls leave conical 'turnips' [6-8]; items such as handles leave cylindrical stubs [9]. The spike-holes or slots used to fix the wood to the drive-shaft are still visible.} Waste products. (7) Conical waster with pin socket for attachment to drive shaft, Iona. 550 - 750 AD.
