Original description
Material recovered from the sand dunes at Ardnave, Islay from the vicinity of the excavations carried out in 1979 - 1980. Forty fragments of corroded iron, mainly representing the heads and shanks of square-headed rivets. These represent a sample of the fragmentary ironwork recovered: a further 317 g was discarded. Dimensions: heads of rivets c 40 x 30 mm or less; shanks up to 45 mm L. Ritchie, J N G, and Welfare, H G; PSAS, 113 (1983), pp 302 - 366; not referred to in report.
