Archaeology Notes

NT42NE 73 456 282 RMS Day Book 1990/26. Crudely made gold open work ring of diameter 15mm found in metal detecting, 26 August 1990 by Mr I Girdwood. Comprises open work wire band, 6-7mm thick, with two lines of undulating wire set between three retaining wires; this is fixed to intaglio, set in sheet gold casing via sheet gold plate which appears to have been soldered on to the back of the intaglio case. Ends of band retained loosely between four small beads of gold. Intaglio possibly of nicolo paste or imitation and depicts Ceres. Antonine in date. In NMS (Acc No.FE 107).
