NX97NE 40 c. 97 76.
The cutting end of a polished claystone axe, 3 1/4" x 2 1/8", found during excavations at Dumfries, which was in the Grierson Museum, Thornhill, is now in Dumfries Museum.

William lists a Group VI polished stone axe from Dumfries town, in Dumfries Museum (Acc No: 1965-100). (Group VI comprises objects of epidotized intermediate tuff of the Borrowdale Volcanic Series from the Great Langdale and Scafell areas of Cumbria).
