A Group VI stone axe from Carruthers (NY 251 806) is in Dumfries Museum (Acc No: 1949-31). It measures 5 ins long by 2 1/4 ins across the cutting edge. It has been thin-sectioned, the section being held in the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow (DUM 4). (Group VI comprises objects of epidotized intermediate tuff of the Borrowdale Volcanic Series from the Great Langdale and Scafell areas of Cumbria).
