Archaeology Notes

NX43NE 17 451 372. Seven stone axes from Arbrack (NX 451 372) are listed: Six are Group VI; of these, four are in Glasgow Art Galleries and Museum (Accession nos: 1955-96ms; 1955-96nf; 1955-96ni; 1955-96nm) while the other two are in the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) (Accession nos: AF 328; AF 627). The seventh axe (?) Group VI is also in the NMAS (Acc No: AF 337). J Williams 1970; Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1889; C I Fell 1964 An additional two Group VI stone axes, in Glasgow Art Galleries and Museum, are listed: (Acc No: 1955-96ml) 'from Leiblands, Arbrack', and (1955-96 mm) 'from Arbrack'. (Group VI comprises objects of epidotized intermediate tuff of the Borrowdale Volcanic Series from the Great Langdale and Scafell areas of Cumbria).
