Archaeology Notes

NT27SW 132 20 72 A flanged bronze axe (Coles' Class II) 'found in digging a foundation near the Convalescent Home at Corstorphine' (NT 206 729) is in RMS(NMAS) (Acc No: DC 86). Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1906; E D Dennison 1917; J M Coles 1966. (Long-flanged axe of Kirtomy type). Single find. Flanged axe, smooth green surface, pitted in places, blade hammered. Length 162mm, butt 29mm, stop-height 2.5mm, cutting edge 68mm, weight 560 gms. NMAS DC 86. P K Schmidt and C B Burgess 1981.
