Archaeology Notes
NS32SW 16 333 221.
In the NMAS are two inscribed silver brooches (Acc. Nos: NG 150-1) and an earthenware jar (ME 239) in which 150 silver pennies, consisting of 143 of Edward I-II, 4 of Alexander III, 1 of Baliol, and 2 foreign sterlings (no Accession nos) were found within the Old Fort (centred NS 333 221). By association with the coins, the brooches must be of late 13th-early 14th century date. The material was donated to the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) as treasure trove in January, 1892.
