Archaeology Notes

NR72SW 2 c. 71 20 Possibly on map sheet NR71NW. Two stone moulds, each in two halves, one for casting a looped spearhead, the other for casting a looped spear-head and a leaf-shaped blade, possibly a tanged razor of a type thought to date from about 1400 to 1000 BC, are said to have been found during breaking up of old land near Campbeltown (NR 71 20) along with two polished axe-heads, said to be of greenstone, or of dark-coloured, clay ironstone, measuring 6 3/4ins by 2 3/4ins and 5 1/2ins by 2 1/4ins.
