Archaeology Notes

NO22SE 1 c. 25 22 A pair of Norse tortoise brooches, found in 1785 at Errol, Perthshire, are in the Perth Natur Hist Museum (Acc. nos: 1291 and 1292). Grieg could not find any brooches from Errol in the Museum, but did find two tortoise brooches there - type 'Righ' 647 (Acc. nos. 1891 and 1892), which, according to Ritchie, the director of the Museum, were from 'Luncarthy in Perthshire'. H Shetelig 1954; S Grieg 1940; J Anderson and G F Black 1888 The brooches are still in Perth Museum: one is on exhibition. Visited by OS (WDJ) 15 June 1964.
