Archaeology Notes

NO11NE 9 c. 163 164. (NO 172 172). An axe-head 14cm. long, ploughed up at Netherton Farm in the spring of 1958, is probably from the axe-factory at Creag na Caillich (information from R Ritchie). In Perth Museum. M Morrison 1960. (Published grid reference must be incorrect: Netherton farm steading - NO 163 164.) (Undated) information from OS Record Card. (Formerly listed as NO11NE 29). An axe of blue-grey, polished stone, found at Netherton farm (NO 163 163) near the River Farg (name: NO 164 172) has been donated to Perth Museum by Mrs Morrison, Willow-bank, Aberargie. It is 14cm in length and may be made of a stone similar to that from the axe factory site on Creag na Caillich, near Killin. (Acc No: 5/1960) J C L Lyddieth 1965. The accession number of this axe in Perth Museum and Art Gallery is PMAG: 5/1960. It is confirmed by Perth Museum that this axe is the name as that noted by Lyddieth and formerly noted as NO11NE 29. Information from RCAHMS (JRS), 25 November 1996.
