Original description

Incomplete rotary quern, Traprain Law, East Lothian. Incomplete rotary quern, Traprain Law, East Lothian. Approximately half of an upper quernstone, somewhat irregular outline; on upper surface, series of natural shallow cup-shaped depressions; holes for lateral handles visible in section in break-edge; diameter 380mm; 220mm across break; 90mm thickness. Inscribed with chalk, not very distinctly but probably: ‘Traprain / RWF 6/56’ [ie RW Feachem]. Trevor Cowie notes, 8 September 2014: allocated year registration number only for tracking purposes during the Leith Cruiser Store decant September 2014 pending more detailed cataloguing, Site: Traprain Law, East Lothian, Scotland, EUROPE.
