Original description

[One of] Finds from excavations between 1930 and 1939 at the Broch of Gurness, Aikerness, Mainland, Orkney (HY 3818 2685), led by Hewat Craw (1930-1933) and J.S. Richardson (1934-1939), as published in 1987. Flat slab with clay adhering asociated with restored pottery vessel X.GAA 2124; roughly squared off, c 320 x 320mm. Trevor Cowie notes, 29 September 2014: this pot was allocated an accession number during the Leith Cruiser Store decant, September 2014; a preliminary search suggests that was not catalogued by Hedges and a new catalogue number has therefore been allocated, but the possibility that it has been double-counted cannot be ruled out. This flat slab to which a layer of clay still adheres appears to have been associated with pottery vessel (X.GAA 2124); the area of clay adhering to the slab approx corresponds to diameter of base of pot
