Original description

[One of] Finds from excavations between 1930 and 1939 at the Broch of Gurness, Aikerness, Mainland, Orkney (HY 3818 2685), led by Hewat Craw (1930-1933) and J.S. Richardson (1934-1939), as published in 1987. Restored pottery vessel, c 30% complete, bucket shaped with rounded rim, relatively straight sides and proportionately broad base; H (restored): c 300mm. Trevor Cowie notes, 29 September 2014: this pot was allocated an accession number during the Leith Cruiser Store decant, September 2014; a preliminary search suggests that was not catalogued by Hedges and a new catalogue number has therefore been allocated, but the possibility that it has been double-counted cannot be ruled out. The pot appears to have been associated with a flat slab to which a layer of clay still adheres, corresponding to diameter of base of pot?) (see X.GAA 2125).
