Early Historic human remains from Winton House, Cockenzie, E Lothian. ORF: IDENTIFICATION - Description: Early Historic human remains from Winton House, Cockenzie, E Lothian. Finds Disposal Panel. FIELD COLLECTION - Place: Winton House, Cockenzie, Tranent, East Lothian. Grid Reference: NT 4024 7562. Site Type: Burials, cists. NMRS no: NT47NW 37. Burials were discovered during construction work in the grounds of Winton House, Cockenzie. Seven undisturbed inhumations were present, at least four of which had originally been contained within cists. The latter displayed a variety of construction techniques and alignments. The best preserved example was a flexed inhumation in a short cist made of vertical upright sandstone slabs.
