Original description

The finds from a Bronze Age cairn at Limefield, Lanarkshire (RCAHMS 1978, Inventory no 77) excavated in 1966 - 67 by A MacLaren. Pottery. Fragmentary Enlarged Food Vessel Urn, found inverted over a cremation (IV) and associated flint knife (EQ 894) in 'cist' 7. The extant pieces mainly represent portions of the lower body, but include enough of the vessel to show it to have a pronounced angular shoulder and concave neck. Wall thickness varies from 11 mm to 16 mm. Reddish-brown outer surface; core variable reddish-brown to grey-black; buff interior with some black mottling. coarse, heavily gritted fabric with inclusions up to 8 mm. The vessel is decorated on the remaining portion of neck with at least six concentric bands of small obliquely applied stabs.
