Original description

The finds from a Bronze Age cairn at Limefield, Lanarkshire (RCAHMS 1978, Inventory no 77) excavated in 1966 - 67 by A MacLaren. Pottery. Partially restored Cordoned Urn, the lower body and part of the base missing. Found outside the kerb in the SE quadrant, accompanied by a chert flake (EQ 899) and cremation V. The upper part of the vessel is roughly cylindrical and terminates in a simple rounded rim; the lower body tapers gently from the lower cordon toward the now absent base. Rim diameter 175 - 187 mm, wall thickness 12 mm. Outer surface reddish-brown; core black; interior greyish-brown becoming blacker toward the base. Hard fabric, heavily gritted with grits up to 8 mm. Two low relief cordons, the upper 44 mm below the rim, the lower 87 mm, encircle the upper part of the vessel; a pair of horizontal two-strand Z-twist cord lines encircle the vessel immediately below the rim and [ ... ] (Morrison, 1968, 117, no. 116).
