Original description

The finds from a Bronze Age cairn at Limefield, Lanarkshire (RCAHMS 1978, Inventory no 77) excavated in 1966 - 67 by A MacLaren. Pottery. Beaker found with chert flake (EQ 898) in 'cist' 3. In overall shape, the vessel is rather squat and distorted: the lower body tapers from a well-defined shoulder to a proportionately broad base, but the upper part of the vessel is more cylindrical, terminating in a simple rounded rim. As restored: height 185 mm, rim diameter 157 mm, base diameter 80 mm, wall thickness 11 mm. Reddish brown surfaces; core dark brown / dark grey. Hard fabric with medium grits; external surface smoothed. The decoration consists of eleven horizontal lines of short vertical jabs irregularly applied over the whole external surface (Ritchie, 1970, no. 29). MacLaren, A; in, Between and Beyond the Walls, 1984, pp 97 - 116, fig 6.4.
