Original description

NEWSTEAD COLLECTION. Rectangular plate of brass in two panels with a boss in the centre of each. "Rom. Fron. Post," Pl LXXII, Fig. 4. [MoS description] Bloodshed, weapons and heroes. Dressing up the horses. (12) Saddle plates, Newstead. 80 - 180 AD. [Scran caption] This brass saddle plate was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used to decorate a saddle, probably on ceremonial occasions, between 80 and 100 AD. Date: Between 80 and 100 AD. Material: Brass. Reference - Curle, J.
