NEWSTEAD COLLECTION. Small pick. "Rom. Fron. Post," Pl. LVIII, 5. [MoS description] Shaping stone. Roman stonemasons. (4) Double-bladed adze, Newstead. 80 - 180 AD. [Scran caption - X.FRA 233-4] This iron adze and pick, both mounted on modern handles, ... were found at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. They were used between 80 and 180 AD, possibly in stoneworking. These tools differ little from modern examples. Date: Between 80 and 180 AD. Material: Iron; Stone. Dimensions: Length of adze: 33.0 cm.
