Original description

NEWSTEAD COLLECTION. Another set of objects similar to XII'14-157, of bronze, p. 177. Pl. XXXII, "Rom. Fron. Post." [MoS description] Bloodshed, weapons and heroes. Dressing up the horses. (10) Saddle mounts, Newstead. 80 - 180 AD. [Scran caption] These four bronze saddle mounts were found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. They would have been used during ceremonial occasions sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The mounts are convex, with small holes around the edges. Date: Between 80 and 180 AD. Material: Bronze.
