Original description

Romano-British Pottery, Glass Vessels, &c. Urn, from Newstead. Trevor Cowie notes 10.09.2009: what may tentatively be identified as the otherwise unlocated X.FR 87 was located during the decant from Queen Street in 2009. The pot has been restored and is marked on the base in ink 'Newstead JAS' probably J A Smith, who in 1846 recorded the first systematic discoveries from Newstead (Archaeologia Scotica 4, p.422). The exterior of the shoulder is also marked 'Found at [not clearly legible but presumably Newstead]. Coarse grey ware, rim missing, lattice decoration around shoulder. The pot is of particular interest as it appears to be a kiln waster.
