Original description
Beads & Rings of Jet, Stone, &c. Ring, square in section, from a cist near Craigiehall, Perthshire. Duns Coll. [MoS description] Fruits of the wild. Hunting - prestige and sport. Prestige and sport hunting, 4th to 2nd millenium BC. (6) Belt ring, near Craigiehall. 2300 - 1600 BC. [for holding the quiver in place]. [Scran caption - X.FN 123, X.EQ 133] These two objects are archery equipment. The cannel coal belt ring from near Craigiehall in Perthshire was probably from a quiver belt, while the stone wristguard from Fyrish at Evanton in Ross-shire protected the archer's wrists from the bowstring. The belt ring is circular, with complex holes in one side for attaching it to a belt. The other end of the belt would have passed through it. The wristguard would have been attached to a leather strap, fixing it to the wrist. Date: Belt ring: between 2300 and 1600 BC; wristguard: between 2300 and 1800 BC. Material: Cannel coal; Stone. Dimensions: Length of wristguard: 11.4 cm.
