Original description

NEWSTEAD COLLECTION. Burr of deerhorn, perforated with brow antler and tine attached. Fraser Hunter note, 31/3/99: See PSAS XLVII, 394-5. [MoS description] Tilling the soil, tending the beasts. Roman agriculture in Scotland. Collectiong fodder and cleaning up. (6) Rakes, Newstead. 80 - 180 AD. [Scran caption] This rake head, formed from a burr of deerhorn, was found during excavations at the site of the Roman fort at Newstead in Roxburghshire. It was used sometime between 80 and 180 AD. The deerhorn burr has been perforated with brow antler and tine attached. Date: Between 80 and 180 AD. Material: Antler.
