Original description

Beads & Rings of Jet, Stone, &c. Ring of dark lignite, 4" dia., found at Hatloch, Tweeddale, Peeblesshire. Anon note, '?' above '4"'. FJH note, 25 February 2000: Some further information comes from Daniel Wilson 1851, 'Archaeology and Prehistoric Annals of Scotland', p 301. He describes the discovery of this bangle 'near a cairn on the north side of Hatlock [sic], in Tweedale, on first subjecting the neighbouring heath to the plough in 1784.' There is no independent authority for the form of the placename or the discovery date, which are slightly different from those recorded in NMS records.
