Original description

Beads & Rings of Jet, Stone, &c. Ring. 4 1/2" dia., found in moss at Dalry, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. FJH note, February 2000: The 1892 Catalogue gives the provenance as Dalry, Ayrshire. However, it is clear that this is actually Dalry, Stewartry of Kirkcudbright. Smellie's 'Account' of the Society (1784, pp 53-5) gives the donor's address as Collieston, which is in Dumfries & Galloway, and his other donations at this time are all from eastern Kirkcudbrightshire or Dumfriesshire. [MoS description] Early People. From their things to their lives. (4) Cannel coal bangle, Dalry. 1000 BC - 1000 AD. [Scran caption - X.FN 1, X.HT 16] These two bangles of cannel coal or shale were found at Dalry in Kirkcudbrightshire and in Barhapple Loch in Wigtownshire. They date from between 200 BC and 1000 AD. The bangles are in two sizes, with the smaller one probably worn by a child. Date: Between 200 BC and 1000 AD. Material: Cannel coal or shale. Dimensions: Diameters: 10.8 cm; 57 mm.
