Original description

A flat ring silver brooch, 2.2" diam., (Callander type I(a)); the inscription on the face begins 'IHESVISNA' then degenerates. On reverse 'IVZIVI['V' inverted] etc'. Found on CROOKSTON N.MAINS. Caption note, June 1993: Found at Crookston North Mains, Midlothian.//T. Deniozou note, 2011-02-04, Information taken from Glenn, Virginia, Romanesque & Gothic: Decorative Metalwork and Ivory Carvings in the Museum of Scotland, NMSE Publishing, Edinburgh, 2003: [One of] B1, C42, 41-2 [Angels, Nobles and Unicorns reference] //The flat ring brooch is complete with pin. It has an inscription on the front and back between single marginal lines, but it is virtually illiterate and copied without comprehension from another source. The pin is oval in section with a projecting oval collar which is decorated with oblique lines//NOTES:1 PSAS, vol LXXXV, 1951, 185.//JM
