Original description

Ballochyle Brooch, a large hemispherical crystal set in a hexagonal ring of silver. Caption note, June 1993: The Ballochyle brooch of silver gilt with a crystal in the centre. Engraved with the initials "MC", the motto "De Serve and Haif the Hevin Babaif" and shields bearing Campbell arms and Leopards Heads for MacIver. Maker "AS"; about 1600. Long in the possession of the MacIver Campbells of Ballochyle, Cowal, Argyll. LOAN DESCRIPTION - The Ballochyle Brooch which has been on loan in the Museum for many years and never registered (but see Reg. p. 296 1908). Handed to Mr Campbell's agents Dundas & Wilson 16 St Andrew Sq. Edinburgh so that replicas could be made ... 17-12-36. Lent by Allister MacIver Campbell. Museum now joint owner with A.M. MacIver Campbell October 1966.
