Original description

Wood. Paddle, probably from the wheel of a horizontal water mill, 1' 9.3" long, 6.2" across the blade, 1.75" across mounted end; the blade is chevron-shaped in cross-section, leaf-shaped in plan with the broader end curved slightly backwards; the narrower end of the blade thickens to become a tapering tang for mounting; 1" from the blade, the blade is pierced [...]; found about seven feet below the surface of a peat-bank at Gutcher, Yell, Shetland; 'position marked on six inch map'.
