Description and Sources

Information from the Treasure Trove database describes a medieval spindle whorl discovered during metal detecting. It was large, bi-concial with dot and triange motifs on one side and line motifs on other side. It was disclaimed (TTNC 2013/261). <1>

The whorl was acquired by Inverness Museum. A conservation report in the museum's archives describes it as made of a lead alloy and 30mm in diameter with a central hole of 10mm. There is minor surface scratching and fint pittine and wear. It is listed under Acc. No. 2003.026. <2>

Also submitted to Treasure Trove from Easter Dalziel was a coin weight. This was disclaimed (TTNC 2001/61) and donated to Inverness Museum. It is listed under Acc. No. 2004.058. <1>

Four figure grid reference given is marginal. A full grid reference for the spindle whorl is held by Treasure Trove. GW 03/07/20
