Description and Sources

Metal detecting at Tarradale in September 2014 found a beautifully preserved early Bronze Age flat copper alloy axe. This axe had been tinned, which probably helped in preserving it and it is likely that it was a secondary deposit quite close to a Neolithic chambered cairn. This find has been reported to the Treasure Trove unit. <1>

A fine, complete Early Bronze Age axehead of Migdale type was found during metal detecting. Claimed as Treasure Trove (TT 28/15), allocated to Inverness Museum and Art Gallery. See DES entry for photo. <2>

This axehead was catalogued and photographed as part of the North Kessock&District Local History Society and Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands (ARCH) collaborative 'Feats of Clay' Project, which was focused on Bronze Age metalworking around the Moray Firth. It was assigned an Early Bronze Age date. <3>

The axehead is listed under Acc. No. 2016.010 in the Inverness Museum catalogue. <4>

Four figure grid reference given is marginal. A full GR for the axe is held by Treasure Trove. GW 13/05/20
