X.2015.24.1-3 X.HR 1751-1753 [One of ]Three fragments of worked whalebone, no locality but almost certainly Orkney X.2015.24.1 = X.HR 1751 = Fragment of cup or vessel made from cetacean bone. H 120mm; X.2015.24.2 = X.HR 1752 = Fragment of worked whalebone, 130 x 130 x 70mm; X.2015.24.3 = X.HR 1753 = Fragment of worked whalebone, elongated fragment c 220mm x 75mm. All three objects are unmarked and unprovenanced but an Orkney provenance seems very likely. An accompanying note on scrap paper in the handwriting of Mrs C L Curle and written at the time she was working on the Birsay report states: “Not from Birsay, perhaps Aikerness. CL Curle. P.T.O./ Try Skara Brae.” Previously unregistered, located and allocated new year registration and catalogue numbers during the Leith store decant 2014/2015.
