Original description

Wooden pail, solid bottom, sides of staves held together by two bands, the upper of twisted wands, the lower of wood, broken. At top are two holes on one side and one on the other, probably to take a handle. Height 5.75", top diam. 6.5", bottom diam. 5.75". Found at foot of body. From Gunnister, Northmavine, Shetland. G. Dalgleish note, April 2010: [H.ME 946.1 - 10]. 1) Pail or tub, staved construction, with solid bottom, all of Scots pine, two holes to one side of rim, one to the other; originally bound with bands of willow and juniper. 2) Twined band of juniper twigs, originally bound round tub or pail. 3 - 10) Band of stripped and shaped willow twigs, originally bound round pail, now in 8 fragments:- 3) Hemispherical section, curved, with repaired join. L. 232 mm, W. 10 mm. 4) Hemispherical section, long notched section cut out towards shaped pointed end, repaired join. L. 185 mm, W. 16 mm. 5) Hemispherical section, straight. L. 166 mm, W. 16 mm. 6) Hemispherical section, curved. L. 135 mm, W. 9 mm. 7) Hemispherical section, curved. L. 84 mm, W. 9 mm. 8) Curved section, straight, with shaped, pointed end. L. 88 mm, W. 13 mm. 9) Curved section, straight, with shaped, pointed end. L. 85 mm, W. 14 mm. 10) Fragment. L. 65 mm Found at foot of body in peat bog, Gunnister, North Mavine, Shetland.
