Original description

X.2009.103 = X.AA 298. Plano convex knife. Excellent condition. From cist at Poltalloch, Kilmartin, Argyll (NGR NR 8212 9735; see RCAHMS no NR89NW 38). An accompanying note in Joanna Close-Brooks’s handwriting says: ‘Flint slug knife found by Eric Cregeen in a cist at Poltalloch with a food vessel with dot-and circle decoration (Note in RBKS writing. Found before 1970).’ This has been added to an original note in another hand [presumably Eric Cregeen’s] stating ‘Found in Grave 4, December 1961). Trevor Cowie also notes: see paper by Cregeen E R & Harrington, P 'Excavations at Poltalloch, Argyll, 1960-62: the cist cemetery', Glasgow Archaeol J, 8 (1981), 19-28, wherein: ‘The knife, found with Food Vessel C, is 73mm long and 20mm wide, of a good quality grey flint , with careful pressure flaking over the whole of the upper surface executed to leave denticulated cutting edges. The implement shows no signs of ever having been used’ (after Longworth in Cregeen & Harrington 1981, 27).
