(NS 1991 4992) Bronze Age Cinerary Urns found AD 1830 (NAT)

Urns containing human bones were found in an enclosure S of Highthorn farmhouse. They are now in the possession of Mr J Fullarton.

These urns were found in 1839 when the road was being constructed.

There was a considerable number of urns found. Not many were sound enough to be removed. They varied from 15 ins in height. They were unglazed and either had a decorated collar or were plain, in the form of a "common flower pot."

A stone axe (Acc No: AF 634) and a flint spearhead, (not numbered) said to have come from this spot, were donated to NMAS in 1890 by Mrs Boyd, Highthorn.

The site falls upon the grass-covered road verge, which appears to have levelled during the construction of the road.

The stone axe NMS AF 634 remains petrologically unidentified.
