NN70SE 33 7777 0146. Four short cists were found sometime before 1878 when Glenallan Cottages, Dunblane, were being built. They were found 15ins below the top of a gravel mound which was being cut back to give more light to the cottages. Two of the cists were destroyed before they could be examined. The third contained remains of an inhumation and an item of bronze. The fourth cist contained two food vessels. The 'bronze item' is almost certainly a blade identified by Coles (J M Coles 1962) as a Ewart Park sword but typical of a flat-rivetted knife-dagger (Fox and Grimes Archaeol Camb Vol.83, 137), now in the Smith Institute Museum, Stirling (Accession no.AM l). Also in the museum are a tripartite food vessel (A Young 1953) and another (Accession nos.AP 3 and 4), again almost certainly, the two food vessels from the fourth cist. Mr Thompson (Mr K Thomson, Curator, Smith Institute), verified that the bronze dagger (Acc.No.256) and the urn, restored, (Acc.No.267) and urn fragments (Acc.No.268) are those from the cists at Glenallan Cottages.
