Small octagonal brooch, 1 1/4" dia. inscribed IHESVS NAZARENVS REXIVDEORVM, etc. found under floor of Dunfermline Abbey.//T. Deniozou note, 2011-02-18, Information taken from Glenn, Virginia, Romanesque & Gothic: Decorative Metalwork and Ivory Carvings in the Museum of Scotland, NMSE Publishing, Edinburgh, 2003: [One of] B1, C42, 41-2 [Angels, Nobles and Unicorns reference] //The octagonal brooch is complete, the sides alternately flat and ridged. The inscription is on the flat panels of the front and back. The pin is a flattened oval in section and has a rectangular collar with a groove on the front and back.//NOTES:1 Graham Callander 1924, fig 4, no 4, 166, no 20, 171.//2 Wilson 1849, no 26, 92; Jardine 1822, gives a very detailed account of the excavations at Dunfermline, but does not mention this find although he refers to other material having been ‘carried off at that time by some of the spectators’ (page 441).//JM
