Description and Sources

A brooch was unearthed from a vegetable plot at Upper Tote, North Rigg, the date is uncertain.
It was given to Mr DA Ross, Skye in 1987 and it was recommended that he take the brooch to Inverness Museum for immediate conservation so the eroded condition of it could be stabilised. The brooch is hand incised.
See assoc. docs. File.

There were two records formerly for this brooch, one based on the first letter sent by Mr Ross, with a general grid reference at NG 512 594 (MHG29930), and a second record, based on the second letter send by Mr Ross with an attached annotated map of the precise findspot. In light of this, the former record has been merged with this one. See assoc. docs for the correspondance. GW 21/11/19

The brooch is within the Skye and Lochalsh Archive Centre, listed under Acc. No. 1990.8. It is dated to the Medieval period. <1>
